Uproar!

If you missed Alice Loxton on Radio 4’s Loose Ends this weekend, make sure you’re booked in to see her on Thursday 23rd March, when she will be appearing at the Lichfield Literature festival to talk about Uproar! – her brilliant, new history of Georgian Britain through the eyes of Thomas Rowlandson and his fellow 18th-century cartoonists, who turned satire into an art form as they took on the British Establishment. Set against a backdrop of royal madness, political intrigue, the birth of American independence and the Napoleonic wars, Uproar! follows the satirists as they lampoon those in power from the British Regent to Georgina, Duchess of Devonshire.
Alice Loxton, one of the UK’s most exciting young historians, is well-known for writing and presenting The History Hit with Dan Snow and currently has over a million followers on social media.
Historian, Tracy Borman, who returns to Lichfield Festival in July, described Loxton’s debut novel as “Vivid, pacey and endlessly engaging, this brilliant debut brings the late Georgian period dazzlingly to life. Irresistible stuff.”
