Free music lessons for children aged 7-11 across Staffordshire, providing opportunities for students to learn a new instrument for a year in whole-class lessons.

Every child deserves to experience the joy of learning a musical instrument, and with music squeezed from the curriculum Music in Schools aims to provide that opportunity to local children who may not have it otherwise. Via Entrust, children take an instrument home with them and with a dedicated teacher, they learn their instrument as a whole class. Instruments range from brass and strings with cornets, violins, and ukuleles, to woodwind with beginner flutes called toots.

Schools tell us the project has a transformational social impact, driving self-confidence, sense of achievement and future aspirations. Past impact data shows the strong correlation between playing instruments, happiness & creativity “I feel amazing, I have achieved so many new things”. As well as a positive effect on mental well-being, educational outcomes improve with a 17% increase in cognitive abilities and a threefold increase in students from low-income families obtaining a degree.

Through the support of the Big Give and CitySave, Music in Schools continues to help students in Staffordshire explore their musical abilities and possibilities.
