Young Critic Review: Romeo & Juliet – Ballet Cymru

Passion & Power

On the 11th of July 2024, I went to watch Ballet Cymru.

Looking through all the different festivals I wasn’t going to choose ballet because it is not something I would usually watch but I went to watch it anyway.

The ballet was very interesting to watch and I was amazed by how well they could dance. The only thing was I couldn’t really see them so Mum & I had to watch it off the screen.

I think that if your going to take younger children I would book front seats since I feel that’s the only row that can actually see the performance. Apart from that, the performance was very good and I enjoyed it. Baller Cymru added a lot of drama into their dancing to make it stand out.

It would start with light music then the next scene would be aggressive and loud. From their dancing, you could tell what scene they were performing from Romeo & Juliet. Everyone seemed very elegant when dancing and the ballet moves were incredible. The dancing was very powerful and everyone knew what they were doing. The dancers put lots of effort into the performance and the facial expression made it very clear how they were feeling.

The outfits amazed me since they really showed the audience what character they were in the play. Since we were in the cathedral, everything would echo which made it sound more powerful. The whole building was silent and everyone was very focused on the play. I enjoyed watching them dance. The dancers seemed very professional and the moves were brilliant. They were doing leaps and jumps all over the stage! I thought this was fantastic. There was intense fighting and the choreography was very well planned. This show really told the story of the two young lovers. Overall, I thought this show was great and I would go and watch the ballet again!
