Royal Secrets Uncovered – Entitled by Andrew Lownie

Murder, the royals, and Epstein, Young Critic Rosa shares her experience hearing Andrew Lownie speak about his new book ‘Entitled’.

It was a dramatic start to the evening. We learned that Andrew Lownie had unfortunately fallen down the stairs that morning and we were relieved to hear that he was alright. He would not be in Lichfield in person, but on a video call. When we went in, almost all of the many seats were filled. We were sitting on extra chairs at the edge of the room.

At the front, there was a large screen, on which Andrew could talk to us on. The set up worked well. First Andrew was asked questions by a man sitting on our side of the screen about his book, Entitled: The Rise and Fall of the House of York. He talked about the former prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson’s strange marriage. He was then asked questions by the audience, mostly about the recent news regarding the Epstein files and more.

A point that stood out to me was how Lownie still believed in the monarchy, even after the book he had written revealing the secrets of Andrew and Sarah. He said that to have the monarchy work more effectively, they will have to have transparent finances and have fewer titles throughout the family. Andrew also believes that there will be more information coming out about Epstein’s suicide soon.

Most of the audience was very shocked to hear that Andrew Lownie believes that Epstein was really murdered in prison. He said that there was a lot of evidence supporting the murder theory, for example the guards being paid a lot of money into their bank accounts close to his death.

Overall, I think the talk was very interesting, and the video call worked well. I enjoyed it, as a person who has not read his book and did not know much about the topic. But I was told that all the points he talked about at the event were also in his book, apart from the questions by the audience dealing with the newer information, and Andrew’s personal opinions.

The event was well run and the organisers successfully coped with the potential disaster of the speaker not being present in person.
