Tell your story with Hidden Depths Benchside Sessions
We’re inviting Lichfield residents and visitors to share their story with us as part of our Hidden Depths project as we uncover ‘what’s beneath the surface’.
Hidden Depths by Laura Page is a series of photographic portraits and stories of people from across the UK, reimagining ageing and defying stereotypes of what it is to be older. The exhibition features over 30 portraits of older people, illustrating the rich and interesting lives they lead.
In sharing these images, Laura – winner of the Rebecca Vassie Memorial Award, which supported the making of the work – aims to challenge stereotypes and break down some of the barriers that contribute to age segregation here at home.
Now through Benchside Sessions, we’re looking to hear the stories of Lichfield residents and visitors (of all ages).
- What do you wish people knew about your life?
- What would you change in society?
- What story have you never had the chance to tell?
- What would you say if everybody was listening to you?
Come and share the answers to these and more. Answers will be filmed and/or audio recorded to form part of a short film exploring the project, intergenerational connection, and perceptions of yourself and others. They may also be used to inspire art, music, or other creative outputs, as part of our Hidden Depths Micro-commissions.
The first 50 people to get involved in Benchside sessions will receive a voucher for free tea/coffee and cake at The Hub at St Mary’s.
We’ll be recording in Lichfield Market Square at the following times, and we’d love you to join us:
- Thursday 24th September, 1-3pm
- Thursday 1st October, 1-3pm
- Thursday 15th October 1-4pm
