Lichfield Festival Green Journeys Competition

LICHFIELD FESTIVAL wants you to take us on a GREEN JOURNEY in just 300 words – with the chance to win an AMAZING prize! 

You could travel into the past to see what life was like before cars and planes or blast into the future to see what the world might be like in 50, 100 or 1,000 years… or you could tell us about a real or imaginary GREEN JOURNEY in 2022…maybe how you might change and save the world! 

And the PRIZE? Well, to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the LICHFIELD FESTIVAL this summer, our very lucky winner will have their story recorded by none other than the sensational STEPHEN FRY! 

We can’t wait to see where your GREEN JOURNEYS will take us…

Terms & Conditions

The Prize 

  • the winning story will be read and recorded by Stephen Fry – who performed at the very first Lichfield Festival in 1982 – for release on the Festival’s social media platforms in early July 
  • the winner will also receive a £50 book voucher 
  • three runners-up will each receive a £10 book voucher 

The Rules 

  • entries may be submitted from Monday 4th April 9am 
  • the closing date is Friday 13th May 6pm 
  • you must attend a school within Staffordshire 
  • writers must be aged 7-11 and we will only accept entries emailed directly from parents/guardians or school teachers (with parental permission) the maximum length of story is 300 words – this does not include the title of your story 
  • entries must be in English 
  • entries must be submitted via the email address below only and not by post all entries must be the original work of the entrant and not copied in any way only one entry per writer, please! 
  • by entering our ‘Green Journeys’ competition, you give the Festival and partner organisations permission to use your story for any purpose of the competition, including in print or via audio/film (made as part of the Prize), on the Festival website, and social media channels 
  • the competition will be judged by a panel of Judges, including our Festival Director, Damian Thantrey, and our Literature Programmer, Anna Millward our Judges’ decision is final and the Festival will not be able to enter into any correspondence after our decision, nor will we be able to offer any individual feedback 
  • the winner and runners-up will be notified by Friday 10th June 
  • the Festival reserves the right to amend these rules or cancel the competition at any stage if deemed necessary 

To Apply

  • write your own story on the topic ‘Green Journeys’ and ask your parent/guardian or school teacher to send it to competition@lichfieldfestival.org with the email header ‘Green Journeys’ 
  • please include the writer’s name, age, school (including address), parent or guardian’s contact details (including phone number) and a short 30-word biography that tells us a little bit about you the writer
