Noye’s Fludde and Community Animal Parade

A giant model bird, ridden by two adults, leads a parade down the street

As a major part of our focus on arts, climate change and the environment, our 2018 Aspire! centrepiece was a production of Benjamin Britten’s children’s opera, telling the story of Noah, the ark, and hope for the future, in the form of the dove and rainbow.  Performed in Lichfield Cathedral, the project was a collaboration between 150 students from local schools, Chetham’s School of Music, local amateur musicians and professional director, film-maker, designer and soloists.

The opera’s performance was preceded by a parade of giant puppet animals created by local community groups, which marched through the City, before making their way to the Cathedral in preparation for their “emb-ark-ation”!
