Led once again by their inspirational Principal Conductor, Ryan Bancroft, our Associate Orchestra, the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, returns to the Festival for a programme of music by Holst (part of our Holst150 season) and Brahms, together with Elgar‘s ever-popular Cello Concerto, featuring star Finnish soloist, Senja Rummukainen pictured.
This evening’s opening half is very much rooted in England, with Holst’s tone poem a personal homage to Thomas Hardy’s Wessex followed by Sir Edward Elgar’s reflective Cello Concerto, his last major work. BBCNOW’s programme concludes with the most personal of Brahms’s four symphonies – a glorious work, written when the composer was 50 and at the peak of his powers.
G.Holst Egdon Heath, Op. 47
E.Elgar Cello Concerto in E minor, Op. 85
J Brahms Symphony No. 3 in F major, Op. 90
