Described by The Times as “Britain’s favourite clarinettist”, Emma Johnson is one of the few clarinet players to have made a career as a soloist. Since winning the BBC Young Musician of the Year at the age of seventeen she has gone on to become one of the UK’s biggest selling classical artists and is known for the diverse range of the repertoire she plays.
Johnson has made 30 recordings to date; with tracks from her recent album with the BBC Concert Orchestra having been streamed 5 million times, and in 2020 she was awarded the Cobbett Medal for distinguished services to chamber music. She loves to collaborate with other musicians and also directs her own ensemble, Emma Johnson and Friends, whose recent live recording of the Schubert Octet was critically acclaimed.
Her eclectic programme includes the Verdi/Bassi ‘Rigoletto’ Fantasy plus works by Vaughan Williams and her own Duke Ellington medley.
