‘The virtuosity and fine detailing of Liebeck’s playing are pretty jaw-dropping … fierce and thrilling’ Gramophone
The second of Associate Artist Danny Driver‘s concerts sees Danny joined at the Festival for the first time by British/German violinist Jack Liebeck. A previous winner of the Concerto Choice Album of the Year for BBC Music Magazine, Jack’s most recent release – Ysaÿe Six Sonatas – garnered a 5-star review in The Times.
Inspiration for their programme today comes from Los Angeles and Hollywood, a home ‘in paradise’ for many composers and artists, particularly those fleeing persecution at the hands of the Nazis. These included Erich Korngold, whose sumptuous Violin Sonata is the focal point for their recital, alongside shorter works by Waxman and Ponce, written for or arranged by another ‘exile’ Jascha Heifetz, one of the greatest violinists ever to live.
