PALISANDER – Cries of London

Palisander bring us a signature blend of music and words in tribute to London – the city they call home – featuring repertoire spanning 800 years, performed on their vast array of recorders, ranging from 15cm to 2m tall.

Cries of London follows the voices of Londoners throughout history, who preserved the city’s sounds, through the notating of church bells, market criers, sailor’s work songs and Frost Fairs on the frozen river Thames of times past.

Handel, Purcell, Dowland and Holst all feature (all once called London home), alongside the more mysterious ‘Mrs Philharmonica’ (a female baroque composer whose true identity is still unknown) and even an offering from an English Queen.
