The YEHUDI MENUHIN SCHOOL ORCHESTRA

The Students of the Yehudi Menuhin School as part of its 60^th anniversary celebrations.

The School was founded in 1963 by the celebrated violinist Yehudi Menuhin. Inspired by a visit to Moscow’s Central School for Young Musicians, Menuhin set out to develop a specialist music school in the UK for extraordinarily gifted children, from all corners of the globe, regardless of their race, creed or parents’ financial position. Starting with just 15 pupils in September 1963, the School has expanded significantly over the last five decades and counts among its illustrious alumni Nicola Benedetti, Alina Ibragimova, Nigel Kennedy, Tasmin Little and Melvyn Tan.

Their programme this evening, under the baton of Ukrainian conductor Maxim Rysanov – who also appears as solo violist – features J.S. Bach Brandenburg Concerto No. 6 in B flat major, alongside works by Gorecki, Bartok and Sir Edward Elgar.
