‘Polly Leech has blossomed into an artist of magnetic poise and the kind of vocal splendour that emerges only rarely among British mezzo-sopranos’ Opera Magazine
Award-winning mezzo soprano, Polly Leech – our 2019 Artist in Residence – returns to the Festival for the first of two 2023 events, here in the company of pianist Florent Mourier. Her Wearing The Trousers recital today forms part of our It’s A Drag mini-season, as we investigate the long-standing tradition of ‘cross-dressing’ in theatre, opera and the arts.
Polly’s programme features a series of the virtuosic and sumptuous ‘trouser role’ arias that form part of any mezzo’s repertoire, showcasing a wide range of characters from lovelorn page boys and fraught composers, to princes, kings and emperors, all brought to life by the music of Handel, Mozart and both Johann Strauss II and Richard Strauss.
Polly also appears with BBCNOW on July 15th (Event 15D).
