Star jazz pianist, Wendy Kirkland, visits the Festival for the first time with her show Blossom Time: The Music of Blossom Dearie, which celebrates the artistry of the late, great American jazz singer/pianist, who collaborated with the likes of Johnny Mercer, Miles Davis, Jack Segal and Johnny Mandel.
The show’s title echoes Dearie’s most popular album – Blossom Time – recorded live at Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club in 1966. Wendy’s set will include repertoire written by pianists and singers Dave Frishberg and Bob Dorough, songwriters Johnny Mandel and of course Blossom herself, with a varied range of feels from swing to Latin, vocal with both light-hearted and poignant themes, with spoken narrative to navigate the audience through the material and Blossom’s history.
