A new chapter for Lichfield Literature

Waterstones would have been hard pressed to find a more appropriate place to open a branch in Lichfield than opposite the statue of Dr Johnson, Lichfield’s most famous son and “arguably the most distinguished man of letters in English history”.
It is great to have this proactive bookseller in the city centre and even better that Waterstones are teaming up with the Festival this Spring to support our annual 4-day literature event, Lichfield Literature, which is running in the Hub at St Mary’s from Thursday 24th – Sunday 28th March.
Lichfield Literature celebrates the power of books and words to move, inspire and provoke conversation. Ranging from historical fiction to contemporary poetry, with splashings of memoir, true crime, nature writing and children’s books, this year’s festival offers something for everyone.
Waterstones will be running the Festival bookshop in the Hub with speakers signing copies after each event.
Samuel Johnson, born in 1709 above his father’s bookshop in Market Place, famously said “You can never be wise unless you love reading” a sentiment both we and Waterstones enthusiastically endorse.
