A Hopping Good Adventure! – Peter Rabbit’s Musical Adventures
Phoebe came to Lichfield Festival this summer to see a blend of Beatrix Potter’s beloved tale blended together with classical music.
As I entered the venue, Minster Hall, to see Peter Rabbit’s Musical Adventures, I could tell there was a happy, joyful and anticipatory mood in the air. Most of the audience watching Peter Rabbit’s Musical Adventures were babies, toddlers, small children and their parents or grandparents.
It was such a good interactive show, and all the characters were acted out very well. Emily was the compère and she had us all involved from the beginning, singing, dancing, having fun and doing actions to a children’s song about rabbits. Most of the young children sat at the front so they could see, which made the whole show feel very relaxed.
Oscar played all the characters, but mostly Peter Rabbit and he moved energetically through the audience, entering and exiting through a range of doors and, at one point, even standing on a chair! Everyone was very friendly and welcoming.
All of this excitement was supported by a four-piece string quartet, who played wonderful music showing happiness, fear and sadness depending on where we were in the story. I thought the music really helped bring the story to life.
The show was almost sold out, with only two or three seats not taken. It was a very hot day and Oscar definitely did not phone it in! He put lots of energy into his performance throughout the show.
My only criticism is that the show did run a little short and there was nowhere to get a drink, even water, on such a hot day. However, everyone seemed to have a great time, and it was a fun, friendly and enjoyable show for young children and their families.
