‘A Perfect Twist of Humour’ – Liberata Collective

Harper saw Liberata Collective perform ‘Antonia: Beyond the Myth of Marie Antoinette’ and told Young Critics all about it.

I was delighted to have the opportunity to view this performance! The atmosphere in the room was wonderful, and everyone was so engaged and interested, providing a delightful setting to listen to the performance. The Hub was also a great place to watch it as it is historical with wonderful acoustics. It was greatly enjoyable with the perfect twist of humour due to the comical timing of the arrival of letters – breaking up some of the music if that wasn’t your favourite element of the show!

It was wonderfully informative and had the perfect amount of historical context. Especially for someone like me, who hadn’t heard the tale of Marie Antoinette, I learnt so much in a fun way, rather than it feeling like a history lesson! It also clearly articulated how life was for women, especially those in power.

While it was light and easy to watch, there was still real emotion in the music. The costumes were fabulous; furthermore, when I spoke to the logistics manager and coordinator, she said that the dress was a difficult thing to manage due to its large size! She also mentioned that the most satisfying thing about the show finally coming together was seeing the audiences who chose to come and watch.

The musicians were all so animated and skilled, looked incredibly happy to be there! I’m not here to rate the show, but if I was, I would say it was a 10/10. This was an incredible experience that I would 100% watch again!
