Chloё Hanslip and Danny Driver
Review by Erin.
Chloё Hanslip and Danny Driver are amazing musicians. Both of them world famous in the field of classical music, for nearly an hour, they played note-perfectly and completely in sync with barely a glance at their digital sheet music, or even each other.
They had a seamless partnership and it is clear that they have practised and performed a lot together.
I was amazed to find out that Chloё was playing a 500 year-old Nicolo Amati violin worth over half a million pounds. These violins rarely get a chance to be played these days, as they are normally in private collections or museums, so it was a privilege to be able to witness this special event, that was in memory of Mary Parsons – one of the longest serving patrons of the Lichfield Festival.
Although it was incredible to listen to, It would have been better if they had of introduced each piece they were playing, and maybe added a bit of background story about the composition, as I had absolutely no idea what I was listening to at any one point in time, so do not know which composer’s music I would like to listen to in the future.
The venue – St Michael Church – was very beautiful, and provided excellent acoustics, which really made the most out of the performance and made for a very enjoyable experience.
I’d highly recommend seeing these two again, and will definitely go to more performances at this venue in the future.
