Young Critics

Every year we recruit a panel of young reviewers for the many and varied Lichfield Festival events that take place throughout the different Festivals we host – Literature, Summer Festival, Chamber and Christmas. The 2023 programme includes a wonderful mix of events and there is, as they say, something for everyone. So what is a Young Critic and what is their role?

If you are considering being a Young Critic, you’ll be pleased to know that the first perk is free tickets! We also provide you with access to the Festival’s organisers, the artists and a first-class opportunity for you to develop your critical thinking and writing skills.

In return you agree to write a review of each of the performances that you’ve chosen. There are all sorts of sessions to choose from – you just need to look through the programme to see what you like the look of. You receive two tickets per selected performance so you might choose to take a sibling, friend or adult and reflect their responses too.

It’s an ideal outlet for anyone who is aged 18 or under with an interest in writing, the arts, journalism and being creative. You don’t have to be experienced but it’s ideal if you have a passion for writing and want to test your skills against meeting deadlines and producing a piece that might be any combination of interesting, honest, thoughtful, incisive, engaging, witty, insightful, descriptive or informative. The reviews are published on the Festival website which is another bonus – you become a published critic!

Being a Young Critic for Lichfield Festival is a fun way to get involved in the community, achieve something to be proud of – and the experience serves you well on any job or education application form of course!
