Young Critic Review: Lichfield Gospel Choir
Wow, Just wow!
On the 6th of July 2024, I went to St Peter & St Paul Roman Catholic Church to see Lichfield Gospel Choir.
This was absolutely amazing. First of all I would like to say how there were so many people to see Lichfield Gospel Choir so clearly it must be a popular choice. I couldn’t help but notice their colourful and bold scarves, they looked very professional. Everyone in that audience was blow away by how powerful their voices were. I had never heard voices like that before and since they were so brilliant at singing I would definitely go again! One of the conductors told the audience that he was born in Zimbabwe. In Zimbabwe, when they would sing together as a group, the melody would start with one person then everyone else would join in. The Conductor was inspired by this and that’s when the Lichfield Gospel Choir came together.
In one of the songs they would over lap their voices and the sound was incredible, like you were in a dream. A lot of the songs were African which I thought was very interesting to listen to. I had never really listened to music from the African culture before but how the Gospel Choir performed made me very curious towards listening to other pieces from that continent. In their pieces, they would include the bongo drums which I loved and it went so well with the music! Lichfield Gospel Choir would also include the audience which I thought made it a lot more fun and we would all join in together, clapping our hands. Their voices would be very loud with all of them singing at the same time. Then, when it got near to the end of a piece they would get quieter and descend until it was silent. Once finished , there would be a big round of applause which was as loud as their singing! Everyone who sung looked very joyful. With the smiles on their faces it just made the whole church light up. It was sang beautifully from start to finish. Coming near to the end they sang a song called- All around. The conductors invited the audience to get up and dance, and at that moment when the song started almost everyone stood up dancing. It was an amazing experience and a magical thing to see.
