The Lichfield Series of ten pictures by artist John Louis Petit (1801-68) launches today in the Guildhall.
Following on from his successful 2023 Literature Festival talk on Petit – Britain’s Lost Pre-Impressionist – Philip Modiano has created a completely new talk to explain the artistic and cultural significance of this Series for Lichfield residents and visitors alike. After the talk, the pictures will be available to order as limited edition prints, as well as a booklet.
The Series has been described as ‘the most remarkable series of images of any British cathedral by an individual artist’ (Dr R Simon, Editor of The British Art Journal). This gives them national as well as local significance.
