‘The masters of G&S in small spaces’ Charles Court Opera make a welcome return with their brand-new production of one of the first G&S operas, The Sorcerer. This rarely performed masterpiece showcases Gilbert at his topsy-turvy best, with sumptuous music from Sullivan that will set your toes tapping as if by magic.
Based on Gilbert’s story An Elixir of Love, it tells the tale of Alexis, a man obsessed with the idea that all should fall in love. Enlisting a ‘Family Sorcerer’ of J.W. Wells & Co. in London to administer a love potion to the entire village – via a teapot – ensures mayhem ensues…
This highly anticipated production promises to be a magical occasion, featuring some of CCO’s finest performers. This is the first time that CCO has produced The Sorcerer, directed by John Savournin, and musically directed by David Eaton, both G&S specialists.
