JULIAN & JIAXIN LLOYD WEBBER – Bach by candlelight

A candle-lit concert to close the 2023 Festival, as our Patron Julian Lloyd Webber hosts a late-night programme of solo cello works performed by his wife, international cellist Jiaxin Lloyd Webber.
Julian Lloyd Webber became a Festival Patron in 2016. As a solo cellist he has performed with many of the world’s legendary musicians from Lord Yehudi Menuhin to Dame Cleo Laine and Sir Elton John. In addition to his hugely distinguished career as a cellist, until 2020, Julian was also Principal of the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire.
Jiaxin Lloyd Webber graduated from Shanghai Conservatory of Music in 1997. Jiaxin has performed with Julian for BBC Radio 3, Classic FM, CNN Global TV, and BBC TV, and her joint 2013 recording with Julian, A Tale of Two Cellos, was the Number One UK classical album for many weeks and is one of the Naxos label’s bestselling recordings of all time.
For our closing concert, Jiaxin will play J.S. Bach Cello Suites Nos 1 & 3, as well as Malcolm Arnold Fantasy for Cello, a work that was written for and premiered by Julian in 1987.
