Simon Thurley – Palaces of Revolution: Life, Death & Art at the Stuart Court

March 24, 2022 @ 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm
Price: £12

Palaces of Revolution is a thrilling new history of the turbulent and troubled Stuart dynasty, told through the palaces and structures they built and the art they acquired. Based on 20 years of research, it brings to life the birth pangs of the modern world through James I’s unconventional pocket-sized residences; Charles I’s life on the run; Charles II’s penurious exile; Cromwell’s Whitehall drinking bouts; the steaming Turkish baths where Charles II relaxed with his mistresses and the austere splendour of William and Mary.

Dr Simon Thurley CBE is a leading historian of English architecture, Senior Research Fellow at the Institute of Historical Research, and Chair of the National Lottery Heritage Fund. For 13 years he was chief executive of English Heritage. He has written 12 books and made many television programmes about historic buildings.
