Continuing our 2024 Young Artist wind season is Emile Souvagie, the current principal clarinettist of Opera Ballet Flanders. In 2023, he won the Gold Medal in the Royal Over-Seas League’s Annual Music Competition.
He will be joined by award-winning British pianist, Hamish Brown, for a programme including works by Schumann and Gershwin, plus the Poulenc Clarinet Sonata.
The second of Associate Artist Danny Driver's concerts sees Danny joined at the Festival for the first time by British/German violinist Jack Liebeck. Inspiration for their programme today comes from Los Angeles and Hollywood, a home ‘in paradise’ for many composers and artists, particularly those fleeing persecution at the hands of the Nazis. These included Erich Korngold, whose sumptuous Violin Sonata is the focal point for their recital.
Pianist Henry Lewis is already the recipient of multiple awards including the Royal Northern College of Music’s Gold Medal 2022, the College’s most prestigious award for instrumental performance. He appears today with a programme featuring Schubert Piano Sonata in G major ‘Fantasie’ and J. S. Bach The Musical Offering.
In the first of two events today to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the School, some of their most talented students join our 2023 Young Artist Series, to play Brahms Piano Trio No. 3 in C minor, Op. 101, and Bridge 3 Idylls for String Quartet.
Associate Artist Danny Driver returns to Lichfield with the first of three 2023 Festival programmes. Recognised internationally as an artist of sophistication, insight and musical depth, his appearances at the Festival have been a highlight since his first 2018 residency. A Gramophone Award nominated artist, Danny has performed with orchestras across the globe, and his long-standing collaboration with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra has seen him perform twice, as a soloist, at the BBC Proms.
Returning to the Festival after two wonderful performances in 2021 and 2022 are Trio Mazzolini. Shortly after their formation in 2019, they were awarded a Chamber Music Fellowship at the Royal Academy of Music – a position they retained for the 2021/22 academic year – and are now much in demand across the UK and Canada.
